World-renowned opera singer Marian Anderson was forbidden to sing at Constitution Hall in Washington DC because of the color of her skin until First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt intervened and arranged an open-air concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. And in 1955, she broke the color barrier by becoming the first black artist to perform on the stage of New York’s famed Metropolitan Opera House. Featuring the music of Verdi and many more great composers, Lori Brown Mirabel brings Anderson to life in a stirring one-woman musical production about standing up for your rights and breaking down walls through the power of music.
Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Lori Brown Mirabel has shared the stage with operatic superstars Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo... And now it’s your students’ turn! In interactive presentations, Lori and her live piano accompanist introduce opera to young people and bring to life a legendary African-American artist. |
